In collaboration with EcoGreen Oases Legacy and AnC Waste Management, NexGen Deutsche-Afrik spent time with the pupils at the Nima Cluster of Schools in Accra, Ghana, educating them on the dangers of plastic pollution and how they can become agents of change in their homes and communities in contributing to a safer environment.
Every year, Ghana produces between 840,000 and 1.1 million tonnes of plastic waste. Yet, less than 10% of this is recycled. The rest ends up in landfills, water bodies, or is openly burned, posing serious environmental and health risks.
From single-use plastics to sachet water packaging, the scale of unmanaged waste threatens ecosystems and urban resilience.
The opportunity? A circular economy that turns waste into jobs, innovation, and sustainable growth.
NEDEA is pushing for:
Stronger waste management systems
Local recycling infrastructure
Policy reform & industry collaboration
Youth-led climate innovation
Special thanks to our Ghana Most Beautiful Queen Titiaka Nihad Oases who is actively championing climate action through the EcoGreen Oases Legacy, for joining us on this initiative.
