The German-African Energy Forum 2025, a call for sustainable green finance in Africa

The 18th edition of the German-Africa Energy Forum organised by Afrika-Verein in Berlin, brought together government officials, industry players, and Green Energy experts from Africa and Germany.

The keynote speech delivered by Dr. Hubert Danso of Africa Investor Group, highlights the need for working towards a just transition that makes social and economic sense.

The panel discussions explored possible mechanisms for green energy investment in tackling the climate crisis and providing access to electricity across the continent.

“Africa has a lot of potential for renewables that are untapped and we need to leverage the cooperation of different actors from different regions to achieve a common purpose” Dr Hubert Danso.

About 600 million people still lack access to electricity in Africa, not because of lack of resources but due to the underutilisation of Africa’s renewables.

The continent’s green energy sector as revealed by a study by the academy of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in 2024, is facing challenges largely hinged on financial factors, technical barriers and policy issues.

The forum provided a platform for strategic partnerships with Germany’s State Secretary-Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, sending an open invitation to all stakeholders especially from Africa, to engage and collaborate with the German industry in advancing the green transformation.
